I love writing fiction. Does anyone know of a contest I can enter?
I am really good at writing fiction and I write mainly just for the fun of it. I’m busy writing a book to publish, but I’m taking it slow. In the meantime, do any of you know of a website that’s hosting a writing contest that won’t ask for entry fees and might be based in South Africa?
Paying an entry fee for a competition is not necessarily a scam. The people running the competition have to be paid and the prize money is accumulated through entry fees.
A scam is when the company tells you that when you place a submission you lose all rights to your intellectual property. These sites are often just phishing for free content.
I don’t know of any based in South Africa or specifically without entry fees.
I have submitted work to Writer’s Digest for non entry fee competitions which are located on the forum side. There aren’t really prizes and they are more like writing prompts, etc. I think they may occasionally print an outstanding entry in their magazine.
